Managing behaviour has two main models. Haslows hierarchy of needs and Ellis and todds relationship theory (2009).

29% children report daily low level disruption by peers

43% children = noise disruption made it difficult to concentrate (Layard and Dunn 2009)

language is crucial. Appropriate vocabulary for talking about behaviour- labelling - value judgement.

"Taking care of behaviour" Paul Dick

own experiences of learning and beliefs colour our approach to behaviour. Own social and emotional development.

Knowing expectations of behaviour in the the context

having social and emotional skills to cope with and meet expectations.

**HASLOWS HIERARCHY OF NEEDS

**ELLIS AND TODD (2009)

~~~relationship with the curriculum
Content, accessibility, appropriate to age and stage of development
~~~relationship with others

Social wellbeing, consistency, empathy

~~~relationship with self
Emotional wellbeing, self esteem, self concept
SO WHAT????
Plan carefully. Lesson effectively meet learning needs of groups. Differentiate
plan routines. Makes lesson run smoother e.g, sharpening pencils!!!
plan learning behaviour you want to see
Plan how you will monitor
plan how to reward behaviour
plan to scaffold children's learning
plan how to respond when behaviour is not quite there
plan for individuals who you KNOW are likely to find things tricky- pre-empt.
